Handbooks for drivers and riders: RDT, SIU, COSMOS, trains and safety. Start with the traffic regulator, the SIU or the COSMOS cab display.

How the RDT (traffic regulator) works
The RDT is the system that tries to keep trains from crushing the headway. If you drive, you want to read the platform panel, know when it holds you, what a line STOP means, and why the SIU talks about altered frequency.
SIUHow to read the platform SIU display
The SIU is the light-blue platform board: it tells you where the train is going and how long until it arrives. On L2 and L3 each board is one direction; on L11 some stations show both directions together.
TrainsCOSMOS cab display
COSMOS is the desk display on the 2000, 3000 and 500 series. It shows how the train is doing car by car: effort, voltage, load and warnings. Here is what each zone of the CONDUCCIÓN page means.
TrainsHow to turn around at the terminus
At a terminus the train does not spin: you change cabs. Leave the desk, walk through the cars to the other end and enter again. Then you leave in the opposite direction.
PlatformsPlatform screen doors (PSD)
On L2, L3 and L11 the platform screens must line up with the train doors. As you approach, a bar appears beside the track strip. If the doors fail, the AAC or the driver can run them by hand from the platform cabinet.
Safety systemsATO: automatic train operation
With key 2 the train drives itself between stations: you handle doors and hold Space to leave. ATO brakes to the mark, respects signals and stays under the ATP code.
Safety systemsATP: automatic train protection
ATP caps your speed by section, curves, whether you are on a diverge, and the signals ahead. The red cab needle is the code: overspeed or taking power on code 0 trips the alarm.
Safety systemsTrain-stop
Red means stop. If you pass a red signal at speed, train-stop trips: the train locks and you do not continue until it is reset (you or the CCM, depending on the session).
