How to read the platform SIU display

The SIU is the light-blue platform board: it tells you where the train is going and how long until it arrives. On L2 and L3 each board is one direction; on L11 some stations show both directions together.

What the SIU is

SIU stands for passenger information system: the platform display. In MetroSim it is the same board you see on L2, L3 and L11: black stripe with the red M diamond, light-blue face, line badge and a clock at the bottom.

You do not set anything up: you just read the board when you reach the platform. It helps whether you are riding or driving (to see if service is disrupted).

How to read a one-direction board (L2 and L3)

On L2 and L3 each board faces one platform and one direction. At the top you see “Direction” and a large destination. Below, two next-train slots.

  • Normal board

L2 to La Pau. Slot 1 is 1:11 away; slot 2 about 6 minutes. Same reading on Paral·lel, Sant Antoni and other one-direction platforms.

  • Train entering

When the first train is very close or already at the platform, slot 1 stops counting seconds and shows Entra.

  • Slot 1: countdown in minutes and seconds (01:11). When the train is entering or at the platform it shows Entra; leaving a terminus it may show Surt.
  • Slot 2: the following train, usually in minutes (6 min). If there is no data you see “Carregant informació” (or the loading text) instead of inventing a timetable.
  • Clock at the bottom of the board: current service time.

L11: dual-direction boards

L11 platforms differ: at Casa de l’Aigua and Ciutat Meridiana the SIU combines both directions on one taller board. There is no slot 1 / slot 2 for the same destination — there are two rows, one per direction.

The top of the board shows Direction / Next train. Each row has the L11 badge, the destination (Can Cuiàs or Trinitat Nova) and the ETA for that direction. The sooner arrival sits on top.

  • Dual direction

Typical face at Casa de l’Aigua or Ciutat Meridiana: two destinations, the nearer one on top. Times are usually minutes:seconds on both rows.

  • If you see Can Cuiàs on one row and Trinitat Nova on the other, you are on a dual board: pick the row for the destination you need.
  • At termini or one-direction L11 platforms the board returns to the classic layout (like L2/L3).

Altered frequency and other platform

When the RDT sets a line STOP, the SIU drops the times and shows the altered-frequency notice. That means headway is not normal and trains should not leave the platform.

At termini, the platform for the unused direction may show “Servei per l’altra andana” (service on the other platform). Do not wait on that board — cross or walk to the active side.

  • STOP / altered frequency

No countdown. The text fills the centre of the board. Pair it with the cab STOP warning or the RDT box.

  • Out-of-service platform

Terminus or closed side for that direction. Trains use the other side: follow the message and change platforms.

Quick tips

The SIU updates from the live fleet in your session: if a train runs late or there is a STOP, the board shows it. You do not need a fixed timetable.

  • On L2/L3: watch destination + slot 1. Slot 2 is only a hint for the one after.
  • On L11 dual: watch the row for your destination, not only the larger clock.
  • If it shows altered frequency, wait at the platform: there is a line STOP.
  • If it says service on the other platform, do not keep staring at that board.
